Leadership in Education & Healthcare

Growing up in the vibrant yet challenging streets of Manila, I witnessed poverty, lack of healthcare, and limited access to education every day. These experiences deeply shaped my dreams and ignited a determination not just to rise above them for myself but to help others do the same. I realized early on that by dedicating my life to healthcare and education, I could help people overcome these barriers and make a real, lasting impact.

My dream was always twofold—not only to provide the best care possible to my patients but also to teach and mentor future generations. I wanted to inspire others to take the knowledge they gain and use it to address real-world challenges. I saw education as a powerful tool to break the cycle of poverty and bring about meaningful change, especially in communities like the one I grew up in.

My journey took flight with a scholarship to pursue Nursing in North Carolina, which led to further academic achievements, including master’s and PhD degrees. Each step made my dream more real. Today, as a tenured Associate Professor at the University of Nevada, Las Vegas, I have the privilege of guiding future nurses, with a particular focus on mental health.

In addition to teaching, I continue practicing clinically and conducting research, focusing on immigration health and mental healthcare innovations. My story is one of perseverance and belief in the power of education. By staying true to these values, I hope to continue breaking barriers and creating lasting change.
