Walbert Castillo is a creative director, multimedia storyteller, and second-generation Filipino American recognized as one of the 100 Most Influential Filipinos in the World for his work bridging culture, community, and design.
With 9+ years of experience across technology, media, and cultural storytelling, he currently serves as an Associate Creative Director at Amazon on the AWS Brand Marketing team. His work spans narrative-driven video campaigns—from docuseries and global product launches to brand awareness content featured on Amazon Prime Video and AWS’s primary channels. He specializes in concept development, visual direction, cross-functional collaboration, and delivering high-quality creative that aligns with both business goals and human stories.
In addition to his work in technology, Walbert is also the Founder of Istorya—an award-winning Filipino pop-up restaurant and storytelling platform based in Las Vegas. Through immersive dining experiences, community partnerships, and documentary storytelling, Istorya reclaims narratives of identity, migration, and memory through food. This work was recently honored with Best Pop-Up by Las Vegas Weekly.
Previously, Walbert was a multimedia journalist at USA TODAY, where he produced the network’s flagship explainer series Just the FAQs, launched sponsored video franchises, and directed investigative documentaries alongside 260+ local newsrooms. Notable work includes Deadly Deliveries, Shattered Faith, and Fought and Forgotten, the latter honoring Filipino WWII veterans.
Walbert’s background also includes internships at The White House (Obama Administration) and CNN, and recognition from the Society for News Design, the USA TODAY Network, and the Illinois Comptroller’s Office. He holds a BS in Journalism from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign.
